What is Forest Bathing?

  • Immersive Experience: Trained guides lead participants through a mindful, sensory experience in nature, helping them reconnect with the natural world (or the "more-than-human world").

  • Roots in Japan: Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-Yoku, originated in Japan in the 1980s as a response to rising stress-related illnesses, particularly among people working in high-pressure tech jobs. The term Shinrin-Yoku translates to “Forest Bathing,” referring to the idea of immersing oneself in the healing atmosphere of the forest, much like a bath for the senses.

  • Evidence-Based Benefits: Research has shown that Forest Bathing offers numerous health benefits, including:

    • Lower blood pressure

    • Increased heart rate variability

    • Decreased cortisol levels

    • Reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression

    • Decreased stress

    • Improved cognitive function, including better memory, enhanced creativity, and improved problem-solving skills.

These benefits can last anywhere from one week to a month after just one session!

What Participants Can Expect:

  • Slow, gentle movements that promote relaxation and mindfulness.

  • Guided sensory experiences to deepen your connection with nature.

  • Accessible walks tailored to accommodate all physical abilities.

  • Connection with self and place, fostering a sense of grounding and presence.

  • A sense of community and shared experience with fellow participants.

  • Relaxation and the opportunity to unwind from everyday stresses.

  • Freedom to explore and engage with nature at your own pace.

  • Despite its name, Forest Bathing can be practiced anywhere, even indoors, making it a versatile practice for all environments.
